▶ CHARACTER INFO.
CHARACTER NAME: Nicholas D. Wolfwood
CHARACTER AGE: Wolfwood has (unwillingly) gone through genetic experimentation during his time with the Eye of Michael which caused his body to age at an accelerated rate. While his actual age is unclear, it's safe to say that he is chronologically at least 18 years old. Physically, he appears to be in his mid to late twenties.
CANON: Trigun Stampede
CANON POINT: Episode 12, right after saving Meryl and escaping with her out of July.
CRAU INFO: N/A
SUITABILITY: Wolfwood has no interest in the politics or state of a world that is not his own. However, he does understand the consequences and reach of a conflict the size of what Neo Tokyo is currently dealing with. Life on Noman's Land is brutal, not only due to the planet's inability to sustain life, but the conditions have hardened its people—it's every man and woman for themself, and no one is guaranteed to last long enough to see the next sunrise. Wolfwood himself has gone through a lot since he was a child, having been taken from the orphanage he grew up in to participate in the Eye of Michael's experiments, effectively turning his body into a weapon to dispose of whoever the Eye wanted to disappear. These conditions have shaped Wolfwood's understanding of the world and humans in general: that life is cruel and unfair, and that people will not hesitate to use others for their own gain no matter the cost.
For the most part, Wolfwood will prioritize keeping a low profile until he learns more about his new surroundings and is able to figure out how to move forward. He's best at keeping busy and is goal-oriented—knowing that Vash is here will help a lot in that regard as he can focus on protecting the one person he is familiar with. Once he's settled, he will be able to shift part of that focus to figuring out a way back to Noman's Land. At his current canon point, Wolfwood essentially has a blank slate in that he's fulfilled his contract and given the state of things back home after Knives' demise, he's essentially freed of his ties with the Eye of Michael. This means that he can actually have the chance to do what he wants now without being concerned with following a directive. While he could very well stay in Neo Tokyo if he and Vash wanted to, Wolfwood has unfinished business back home; the most important one being to free Livio from the Eye of Michael as well.
His training with the Eye has made him observant and adaptable; regardless of where he ends up, Wolfwood will find some way to blend in and gain the information he needs to ally himself with what he deems is most advantageous to him and Vash. At least, once a method of returning home is secured. Wolfwood has no qualms with abandoning whatever side he chooses once he finds a way to get what he wants. He'll struggle with the new and advanced technology at first (the ocular and brain implants will always be a source of trauma for him due to the experiments he'd already endured), but he's a quick learner and is good at compartmentalizing, and will likely figure it out after the initial culture shock.
No matter how things play out, Wolfwood will cooperate and remain on guard, aiding in missions and helping out the other Outsiders. Vash will probably be dragging him into helping also, since he can't seem to stay out of people's business and Wolfwood is miraculously incapable of saying no to him.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
+ Pragmatic
+ Loyal
+ Protective
+ Kind
- Pessimistic
- Cynical
- Jaded
- Self-serving
At his core, Wolfwood is a haunted man who paid the price of a bargain made for the safety of the only place he had been able to call home. He is aware of who he is as a person and that he is past redemption, having killed too many in his life—there is nothing he nor anyone can do to change this fact. But Vash had looked at him when they were in the belly of the worm and said "[he] can see it in his eyes" that Wolfwood is kind; that he has the capacity for change and to be more than just the killing machine he was engineered to be.
Wolfwood is a survivalist, and while at times he may come across as callous and self-serving, he understands the pain of loss and the value of life. He tells Zazie that "no matter how heavy a cross you carry, you still deserve to eat. You still deserve to laugh." Wolfwood understands that in order to protect others, he must first protect himself and keep himself alive, to continue moving forward no matter the hardships he must endure because of his choices.
PERSONALITY REFERENCE: Here!
POWERS & SKILLS: Through the experiments he'd endured with the Eye of Michael, Wolfwood's body has been genetically engineered to be at peak physical condition and is bestowed the following abilities:Enhanced strength: Wolfwood is able to lift at least 100 kilos or 220 lbs. without demonstrating any sort of strain. His primary weapon is the Punisher, an extremely heavy cross-shaped gun that also contains a laser, which Wolfwood regularly carries around with ease despite its shape and size. Enhanced durability: Wolfwood's first introduction to the series was getting hit by Meryl's van going at full speed and surviving with merely a minor concussion and some bleeding. Throughout the rest of his time with Vash's group, Wolfwood has sustained all manner of injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening and is somehow still able to keep going immediately after. Enhanced healing: His enhanced healing goes hand-in-hand with his enhanced durability, as almost all of his injuries heal at a considerably faster rate compared to a normal human. Although he's able to heal anything critical in the midst of battle with his vials, he has a limited supply of them and they are usually reserved for emergencies. Enhanced stamina: Wolfwood is able to stand toe to toe with other superhuman characters throughout the series; most notably, he's able to keep up with Vash, one of the strongest next to Millions Knives, without difficulty. He doesn't seem to tire out very often, if at all, and is shown to be able to carry on a fight for an extended amount of time without any breaks in between. Enhanced agility: Wolfwood is able to parkour over buildings at very far distances and to nearly impossible heights, all while carrying his weapon and another adult human. He doesn't seem to break a sweat while doing this either, nor does he seem out of breath afterwards.
Wolfwood is also shown to have enhanced senses, reflexes, and is a perfect shot. His training with the Eye has made him able to adapt to any situation, continuously analyzing his opponents to gain the upper hand. With his penchant for recklessness and his inability to stay down, Wolfwood is a difficult opponent in a fight and will not hesitate to be a pain in the ass for whoever is unfortunate enough to be his target.
PERSONAL ITEM: His lighter. It's just a regular gold colored lighter with the Eye of Michael insignia on it.
ALTERNATE IDENTITY: Nicky De La Cruz, a janitor.
