IC INFORMATION

Character Name: Nicholas D. Wolfwood
Canon: Trigun Stampede
Canon Point: Episode 12, right after saving Meryl and escaping with her out of July.
Age: Wolfwood has (unwillingly) gone through genetic experimentation during his time with the Eye of Michael which caused his body to age at an accelerated rate. While his actual age is unclear, it's safe to say that he is chronologically at least 18 years old. Physically, he appears to be in his mid to late twenties.

Background: Plot synopsis by episode.

Arrival Scenario: Solvunn

Suitability:
Wolfwood has no interest in politics. However, he does understand the consequences and reach of a conflict the size of what Abraxas is currently dealing with. For the most part, Wolfwood will prioritize keeping a low profile until he learns more about his new surroundings and is able to figure out how to move forward. He's best at keeping busy and is goal-oriented—knowing that Vash is here will help a lot in that regard as he can focus on protecting the one person he is familiar with. Once he's settled, he will be able to shift part of that focus to figuring out a way back to Noman's Land. At his current canon point, Wolfwood essentially has a blank slate in that he's fulfilled his contract and given the state of things back home after Knives' demise, he's essentially freed of his ties with the Eye of Michael. This means that he can actually have the chance to do what he wants now without being concerned with following a directive. While he could very well stay in Abraxas if he and Vash wanted to, Wolfwood has unfinished business back home—the most important one being to free Livio from the Eye of Michael as well.

His training with the Eye has made him observant and adaptable; regardless of where he ends up, Wolfwood will find some way to blend in with the locals and gain the information he needs to ally himself with the faction that is most advantageous to him and Vash. At least, once a method of returning home is secured. Wolfwood has no qualms with abandoning whatever side he chooses once he finds a way to get what he wants.

No matter how things play out, Wolfwood will cooperate and remain on guard, aiding in investigations and helping out the other Summoned. Vash will likely be dragging him into helping also, since he can't seem to stay out of people's business and Wolfwood is miraculously incapable of saying no to him. He would fit in best with Solvunn, as the simple way of life and manual labor would be a nice change of pace compared to Thorne or the Free Cities. He's good with kids and with certain livestock (chickens), and won't hesitate to get his hands dirty if it means making a good impression.

Powers:
Through the experiments he'd endured with the Eye of Michael, Wolfwood's body has been genetically engineered to be at peak physical condition and is bestowed the following abilities:
Enhanced strength: Wolfwood is able to lift at least 100 kilos or 220 lbs. without demonstrating any sort of strain. His primary weapon is the Punisher, an extremely heavy cross-shaped gun that also contains a laser, which Wolfwood regularly carries around with ease despite its shape and size.

Enhanced durability: Wolfwood's first introduction to the series was getting hit by Meryl's van going at full speed and surviving with merely a minor concussion and some bleeding. Throughout the rest of his time with Vash's group, Wolfwood has sustained all manner of injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening and is somehow still able to keep going immediately after.

Enhanced healing: His enhanced healing goes hand-in-hand with his enhanced durability, as almost all of his injuries heal at a considerably faster rate compared to a normal human. Although he's able to heal anything critical in the midst of battle with his vials, he has a limited supply of them and they are usually reserved for emergencies.

Enhanced stamina: Wolfwood is able to stand toe to toe with other superhuman characters throughout the series; most notably, he's able to keep up with Vash, one of the strongest next to Millions Knives, without difficulty. He doesn't seem to tire out very often, if at all, and is shown to be able to carry on a fight for an extended amount of time without any breaks in between.

Enhanced agility: Wolfwood is able to parkour over buildings at very far distances and to nearly impossible heights, all while carrying his weapon and another adult human. He doesn't seem to break a sweat while doing this either, nor does he seem out of breath afterwards.

Wolfwood is also shown to have enhanced senses, reflexes, and is a perfect shot. His training with the Eye has made him able to adapt to any situation, continuously analyzing his opponents to gain the upper hand. With his penchant for recklessness and his inability to stay down, Wolfwood is a difficult opponent in a fight and will not hesitate to be a pain in the ass for whoever is unfortunate enough to be his target.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
It is revealed toward the end of the first season that Wolfwood's true purpose in joining up with Vash was to lead him to July and ultimately, to his brother, Millions Knives. What was meant to be a straightforward escort mission gets complicated the more Wolfwood comes to know Vash, who seems to see through Wolfwood's bitter cynicism to the heart of him: a haunted man who paid the price of a bargain made for the safety of the only place he had been able to call home. Wolfwood is aware of who he is as a person and that he is past redemption, having killed too many in his life—there is nothing he nor anyone can do to change this fact. But Vash had looked at him when they were in the belly of the worm and said "[he] can see it in his eyes" that Wolfwood is kind; that he has the capacity for change and to be more than just the killing machine he was engineered to be.

Over the course of the season, Wolfwood shows that kindness despite his struggles to reconcile who he is with what he's done. This is apparent when Wolfwood goes back to July to try and help Vash and Meryl in the final fight against Knives, despite having already fulfilled his objective. If he hadn't taken this assignment and met Vash, he likely would have remained the same pessimistic and coldhearted person he always believed himself to be.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Wolfwood has a pragmatic and jaded outlook on life, often butting heads with Vash's kindness and optimism. He is well aware that the world they live in is cruel and unfair and the weak don't survive; it's every man for himself, kill or be killed, and Wolfwood would be damned if he let himself be killed first. He tells Vash that he "[doesn't] have the luxury of being afraid to make tough decisions" and that he has to choose to protect the things that are dear to him; thus, he'll do anything he has to in order to achieve that—even if it means killing people. He doesn't take pleasure in it, hates it in fact, but he accepts that it is necessary to do so in order to keep those important to him safe.

Wolfwood is a survivalist, and while at times he may come across as callous and self-serving, he understands the pain of loss and the value of life. He tells Zazie that "no matter how heavy a cross you carry, you still deserve to eat. You still deserve to laugh"; something that is especially applicable to Vash, whose guilt weighs him down so much that he neglects his own health at times. Wolfwood understands that in order to protect others, he must first protect himself and keep himself alive, to continue moving forward no matter the hardships he must endure because of his choices.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?
While Wolfwood would like to believe (and have others believe) that he admires qualities like pragmatism and loyalty—and he does value these qualities—at his core, Wolfwood admires kindness, and the ability to continue to be kind despite the cruelties of life. Although this may seem antithetical to Wolfwood's outward personality, he craves this sort of kindness and compassion because he's never experienced it himself. At a young age, Wolfwood has had to fend for himself, having lost his parents before he was brought to the orphanage, and later being subjected to the Eye's experiments. Yet, he knows that he doesn't deserve that kindness because of what he's done.

Still, there is a strength in gentleness and in mercy. While Wolfwood often sneers at Vash's habit of giving out pieces of himself just for the sake of helping others and his stubborn refusal to kill, he admires Vash's unwavering commitment to it; his unshakeable belief that there is always goodness in humanity, they just need to have the opportunity to foster it. Vash shows him that just like Wolfwood, the world has the capacity to change, and that life can still be kind and good.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
There is a lot that Wolfwood dislikes about himself—it would actually be easier to say that he dislikes everything about himself at this point. However, what he hates about himself the most is his physical body: while he has gained a lot from the genetic experimentations, Wolfwood doesn't really see himself as human. His body has become merely a tool for him to use to carry out his assignments, all in the name of protecting the orphanage; beyond that, his body doesn't truly feel like his own anymore.

It's part of the reason why he feels that he doesn't deserve kindness and that he is incapable of being kind. How could someone be kind and good when they have already killed so much? The world will always be cruel and unfair no matter what he does, and he hates how disillusioned he has become because of it. While protecting the orphanage is his reason behind everything he does, the gravity of his sins weigh heavily on him in much the same way Vash's guilt weighs on his own shoulders. However, while Vash channels it into atonement and helping anyone and everyone he comes across, Wolfwood knows he is past the point of repentance, and as such, the only option he has is to continue throwing himself into what he is good at and what he was made to do. A weapon is given trajectory, not autonomy.

What is their sign, and why?
Strength. This goes beyond his physical capabilities, but rather focuses on his self-assigned role of protector. Most of Wolfwood's motivations center around protecting the orphanage he grew up in, the one place that he considered home before he was taken by the Eye of Michael. Despite everything he's been through, he has not wavered in his conviction; he tells Vash that "protection is [his] primary instinct", and he pursues this with an almost dogged determination, doing whatever it takes to accomplish this goal even if it puts his own life in danger. No price is too high to pay—if it means he has no chance at salvation, as long as he can protect those precious few, nothing else matters.
